Keepers of Tradition Reprint - neue Vampire

Post by hardyrange »

Back in 2008 when the Keepers of Tradition expansion was originally published, three crypt cards never reached the printers. Black Chantry Productions have chosen to include these cards in their reprint bundles.

One of the cards is Osric Vladislav, a Malkavian mentioned in the Vampire: The Masquerade sourcebook “Gehenna”. In the letter depictioned above he claims to be of the 8th generation, and the grandchilde of Santaleous and the greatgrandchilde of Louhi.

Name: Osric Vladislav
Cardtype: Vampire
Clan: Malkavian
Group: 5
Capacity: 7
Discipline: cel AUS DEM OBF
Camarilla: Osric can burn a location you control to get +1 stealth for the current action.
Artist: Peter Bergting

While not titled nor with a very spectacular special ability, Osric has all the Malkavian clan disciplines at superior level and also basic celerity. His ability may seem weak, but it might very well be what gives you that crucial extra +1 stealth to make the oust. And just imagine what might happen if you borrow Powerbase: Montreal or The Rack?

The artwork is by Peter Bergting, a Swedish artist credited for no less than 72 cards for Vampire: The Eternal Struggle. He is more known for his comic book collaborations with Mike Mignola, Image Comics and Dark Horse, and own graphic novels such as "Portent" and "Domovoi".

Osric Vladislav is found in The Keepers of Tradition reprint bundle 1 together with other Malkavian cards and also cards for clans Brujah, Gangrel and Nosferatu. For a complete list of all cards in the bundle, check out the product page at DriveThruCards.com.

Spotlight: Gwendolyn Fleming

Three crypt cards were left out from the original printing of Keepers of Tradition back in 2008. Black Chantry Productions have chosen to include these cards in their reprint bundles.

The card Gwendolyn Fleming is based on a character from “World of Darkness: Hong Kong”, a 1998 crossover sourcebook for all lines of White Wolf´s Storyteller System, covering all kinds of supernatural activity in the region. Gwendolyn is of Scotish descent and was Embraced in 1758. Since early 20th century, she has established a position as "the lionesse of Hong Kong´s cultural community". Many Western Kindred (“kin-jin”) left when China reclaimed the city, but Gwendolyn remained, seeing herself as the last bastion of Western culture. Other Kindred of Hong Kong that have become VTES cards are Oliver Thrace (Tremere) and Stephen Bateson (Tzimisce masquerading as Tremere).

Name: Gwendolyn Fleming
Cardtype: Vampire
Clan: Toreador
Group: 5
Capacity: 6
Discipline: cel pro AUS PRE
Camarilla.
Artist: Efrem Palacios

The card is rather “vanilla”, but fills it´s spot in group 5. A bit large for the weenie-PRE bleed deck, but can bounce bleeds and invoke intercept with her AUS. What everybody wonders: Is that a normal dog or a ghouled super-puppy? And what is the name of the dog?

The artist Efrem Palacios has enjoyed a splendid career since making this art, working with everything from Magic: the Gathering and Hearthstone to Assassins´s Creed and Star Wars.

Gwendolyn Fleming is found in The Keepers of Tradition reprint bundle 2 together with other Toreador cards and also cards for Tremere, Ventrue and Caitiff. For a complete list of all cards in the bundle, check out the product page at DriveThruCards.com.

Spotlight: Hiram "Hide" DeVries

Three crypt cards were left out from the original printing of Keepers of Tradition back in 2008. Black Chantry Productions have chosen to include these cards in their reprint bundles.

According to the 2003 Vampire: The Masquerade sourcebook “Succubus Club: Dead Man´s Party”, Hiram “Hide” DeVries is the current proprietor of the Succubus Club. It is no longer a permanent establishment found in Chicago, but instead a mobile nightclub, moving around between cities in North America.

“The new top dog of the SC is this Lick by name of Hiram DeVries. He´s one of these up-and-coming Blue Bloods who got the bite back in the early ´90s, when the Ventrue gobbled up all those start-up companies and were desperate for middle managers to run them. Hide – so they call him – was smart enough to see the writing on the wall and started for a new playground before the Internet bubble popped.” … “Hide´s the kind of guy who can talk both your ears off, just bury you in a huge pile of words until you give him what he wants just to get him to shove off. He´s also what you call a good networker, so he can get the club just about anything it needs with a phone call or two.”

Name: Hiram “Hide” DeVries
Cardtype: Vampire
Clan: Ventrue
Group: 5
Capacity: 3
Discipline: cel pre
Camarilla: While Hiram is ready, actions to burn a location you control cost 1 additional blood.
Artist: Mattias Tapia

While not exactly a powerhouse, Hiram is a 3-capacity vampire with a corner-case ability that late game might deter others from attacking your locations. Sadly, his Succubus Club is one of the only four cards in the original 437 card Jyhad set that is banned from tournament play.

Let´s see how long it takes before a deck with Hiram is entered into the Tournament Winning Deck Archive. The challenge is on!

The artist Matias Tapia is an acclaimed illustrator and concept artist that has done work for Blizzard, Wizards of the Coast, Fantasy Flight and numerous others.

Hiram “Hide” DeVries is found in The Keepers of Tradition reprint bundle 2 together with other Ventrue cards and also cards for Toreador, Tremere and Caitiff. For a complete list of all cards in the bundle, check out the product page at DriveThruCards.com.

Aus einer Info-E-Mail von BCP via DriveThruCards, 23.04.22:
Additionally Keepers of Tradition 1 and Keepers of Tradition 2 have been updated to match the current printed text e.g. Rego Motum rather than Rego Motus.
