Further Information:

Schloss Strünkede:

Strünkede Castle is one of the most significant historic buildings in Herne. The original moated castle was first mentioned in a document in 1243 and served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Strünkede for centuries. After several sieges and periods of destruction, the medieval fortification evolved in the 16th and 17th centuries into a stately moated castle in the Renaissance and early Baroque styles. The current south wing was completed in 1664.
In the 20th century, the castle served, among other things, as a restaurant, a military hospital, and police headquarters. It has belonged to the city of Herne since 1948 and today houses the Emschertal Museum. Together with the medieval castle chapel and the sprawling castle park, it provides a setting for our tournament that is as steeped in history as it is atmospheric.

Schlosskapelle:

The small castle chapel across from Strünkede Castle was built in 1272 by Bernd von Strünkede as a place of worship for the castle’s inhabitants. Today, it is considered the oldest surviving building in Herne. It acquired its current Gothic appearance largely during the 14th and 15th centuries. Inside, visitors will find, among other things, a ribbed vault, remnants of medieval wall paintings, and the tombs and tombstones of the von Strünkede family.
During the Reformation, the originally Catholic chapel became Protestant in 1561. In the 19th century, it lost its religious function, fell into increasing disrepair, and was even used at times as a stable and barn. Following extensive restoration, this historic gem now once again serves as a venue for church services, concerts, and church weddings—and, together with the castle, forms an impressive medieval backdrop.

Nette Idee, befürchte nur, das Startgeld würde dann auf EC Niveau liegen.
